What's the Law about repairing Water Damage?
bafflingsteveo asked:
My apartment got water damage last night from the washing machine hose/pipe upstairs. The Fire Department was out here poking holes and ******* up water, and then the Management was here and they ****** up more water and setup a humidifier. Then they told me to wait till Monday for repairs. I can see the water spreading above me in the ceiling (water spots) and I do not know what to do. It happened last night, Friday night, and they want me to wait till Monday. Is that ok? What should I do?

Yes that's Ok, the leak has been attended to, and as you say as much water as possible has been removed. It seems that everything possible has been done, and it takes time to arrange for repair contractors to put things right. so Monday it is then. There is no law.

if necessary make a hole in the plaster on ceiling with a screwdriver and put a bucket underneath to catch water, you may need to do it in a few places as if water has no proper exit, the complete ceiling plasterwork can get soggy enough to fall down and do more damage

Considering the time of day, and the fact that it's late on a Saturday evening, it would be next to impossible to find a plumber, let alone get one to come out, ………. before Monday. If the leak is stopped from overhead, then there's not much that can be done till Monday anyway. If the ceiling looks like it might come down, then I'd pull it down rather than wait for it to drop on it's own. But it looks like Monday it is for the repairs.
